Introducing La Crescent Chiropractor Dr. Corey Harris

La Crescent chiropractor Dr. Corey Harris

As a kid, I never really knew what a chiropractor did other than “crack your bones,” but…

I struggled throughout high school with low back pain that never seemed to go away. I was 16 years old at the time and I couldn’t lift my right leg off the ground more than a foot without pain. It turns out I had a degenerated disc that was irreversible. I went to several medical doctors covering about 6 months with minimal relief. One of my relatives at the time was seeing a chiropractor and suggested that I give it a chance. I really had no idea what they did or what it was all about. Within 6 visits I was walking pain free and continued playing athletics. To this day I continue with weekly adjustments and I have had no complications related my low back.

When I was attending Viterbo University, I had the opportunity to speak with Dr. Chris Wood, who was in the last trimester at Palmer College of Chiropractic. He gave me some great advice that I will never forget. He said, “The power to be able to use your hands to produce the results that we see, is unbelievable! This profession has the ability to help so many people, we just have to get the word out.” I did some job shadowing with Dr. Wood after he finished school and was an associate doctor in La Crosse. Since then, I have been motivated to help spread the word of chiropractic to as many people as I can.

There were many colleges for chiropractic to choose from but I chose Northwestern Health Sciences University in Bloomington, Minnesota for several reasons. NWHSU offered more modern and up and coming forms of classes and techniques, not only in the field of chiropractic but in a broad base of physiotherapy as well. I strongly believe that muscles play an important role in chiropractic and NWHSU gave me the opportunity to study that avenue in depth. I was surprised to find that muscles played a lot more in the entire musculoskeletal make up when I began taking classes in Anatomy and physiology and in human biology. These classes made me want to know more about how muscles and bones worked together and how I could help people stay more active and pain free by learning more about their correlation to each other.

I mainly chose NWHSU because they ranked in the top 5 nationally of Chiropractic colleges and also because they are also among the top ten colleges for graduating class size and licensed chiropractors. An excellent education with modern ideals was exactly what I was looking for in my future and knew that Northwestern Health Sciences University was for me.

Thus far in my career as a chiropractor, I have witnessed some great success stories that I will never forget. Several patients that I have seen have started with chiropractic care by suggestion of a relative or a spouse and were very skeptical of the benefits of chiropractic care. I explained to them that I started out the same way when I first saw a chiropractor, but after witnessing firsthand the benefits of chiropractic care, I became a believer. I still see those patients to this day because of the care I give them.

Chiropractic not only helps the patients main complaint, it also helps maintain the bodies overall health and function. My philosophy as a chiropractor is your health affects everything you do and everyone you know. If you aren’t healthy you aren’t working or playing to the best of your ability and that can put a strain on everything in your life.

I grew up on the north side of La Crosse attending Logan High School. I was active in sports since I was a small child and am still active in sports today, mainly basketball. I played high school basketball and that carried over into my college career where I played basketball for Viterbo University. I still play in a men’s league three times a week. This helps me to stay fit and reduce stress.

I watch a lot of sports and being raised in Wisconsin, that makes me a Brewers and a Packers fan! I also like to attend the Viterbo University basketball game when time allows.

I receive chiropractic adjustments on a weekly basis to maintain my overall health and spinal stability. I try to watch what I eat and take a daily vitamin and Omega-3 fish oils to maintain my immune system and heart health. I pass on to my patients the importance of exercise and keeping muscles limber and to hydrate themselves daily. I stress the importance of diet and exercise so that they can maintain optimal health on all levels.

I look forward to meeting you and getting to know your concerns about a healthier lifestyle. Give our office a call or email me at the link below to get on the path to wellness!

Dr. Wood Asks some important questions of interest to La Crescent residents - Chiropractor La Crescent Dr. Wood Asks...

Could a chiropractor put an end to bedwetting?
If bladder control seems elusive, consider chiropractic. If spinal bones are interfering with nerves that control your child's bladder, plastic sheets, alarms and other methods simply add to the embarrassment. La Crescent parents are often amazed (and relieved) that chiropractic can be so helpful. Learn more.
What's the difference between a "good" drug and a "bad" drug?
As a chiropractor, I see the use of many drugs (legal or illegal) as merely symptom treating. Worse, virtually every drug produces unwanted effects. The effects of chiropractic are largely positive effects. If you're a La Crescent parent, consider carefully before giving your child a cough medication, cold remedy or pain reliever so this sort of question doesn't arise in the first place.
